A Predictive Flow Control Scheme for Efficient Network Utilization and QoS

In this paper a new predictive flow control scheme is proposed and its performance is evaluated. This scheme manages the controllable traffic based on the estimation of uncontrollable traffic. The objective is to run the network with low congestion (jam) and increasing the throughput time according to the network. Performing thorough evaluation on the flow control mechanism this results that the algorithm is very useful and consists attractive properties. By doing the analysis on flow control method an explicit condition is achieved that results in design guidelines and how to select a predictor. During the development of the predictor one should consider the queuing effect . The numerical statistics are provided in order to compare various predictors that use different degrees information from the network

Existing System:

High-speed networks will carry both delay sensitive (DS) traffic and delay insensitive (DI) traffic.DS traffic: voice, video, multimedia applications. (Real time traffic). DI traffic: e-mail, ftp, web-browsing etc. (Non real time).Transient oscillations in network traffic can lead to network congestion  => excessive delays => poor QoS performance, especially for DS traffic.

We must provide low delay service to DS traffic, while at the same time efficiently utilizing the network.

Single-bit feedback schemes

Two-bit feedback schemes

Explicit-rate control schemes

Draw Backs:

Queuing system is non-linear.

Control system is non-linear since the controlled DI traffic rate can never be less than zero.

In some explicit-rate control schemes, a linear system is used as an approximation but this could result in poor network performance.

Proposed System:

To develop a predictive  flow control algorithm that minimizes congestion under a throughput constraint. A predictive flow control scheme is proposed to solve the following problem

  • Individual Link Level Problem

Advantages of Proposed System: Proposed system achieves the following in a network

  • High Throughput
    • Low Congestion
    • Real Time Flow is given high priority
    • Non Real Time Flow is given low priority
